I recently reread an article from the January/February issue of Discipleship Journal (now out of print). It was entitled "Wired for Change - What Neuroscience Taught Me About Renewing My Mind." It was written by Laura Barwegen. We are told in the Bible that we are to have a renewing of the mind. Wouldn't it be nice to actually have our minds renewed. To be able to reset them with a fresh start like we can many of our electronic devises. Neuroscience is now showing that many of the bad habits we get into are the result of choices we make and then learn. For instance when we feel depressed or sad as a child we are given a piece of candy or a sweet by an adult to make us feel better. Our brain then learns that when it is a feeling a certain emotion it is to respond it a certain way, by EATING! Or when a person is feeling lonely and turns to pornography to make themselves feel better, it becomes a learned process in the mind. The good news is that neuroscience now shows that what God commands us to do, have a renewing of the mind, is possible. The learned processes of the brain can be reprogrammed through intentional work to change our sinful habits into good ones. To find out how, read the short article and prepare to be amazed at the mind God has given us. And don't worry about it being complicated, it's not a medical journal, it is an article written for the common pastor or person sitting in the pew. I hope you enjoy. You can purchase a back copy of the magazine for $4.95 - http://www.navpress.com/product/973/DJ-169-J-F-09-VOL29-NO1-DECISIONS or Contact Pastor Joe about borrowing his copy.

| I am slowly reading through a
book called "The Feasts of the Lord - God's Prophetic Calendar From
Calvary to the Kingdom." The book is all about the seven Jewish
feasts that God commanded them to practice. What is very interesting is
that each feast corresponds with a major event in the life of Jesus. Not
only that but the symbolism that each feast teaches the people also
corresponds with Jesus life. The book covers all seven feasts -
1.Passover The first four have already been fulfilled in the life of Jesus, the last three remain. It's exciting stuff, and I'd love to hear what you think of it too. So give it a read. Its short, easy reading and very facinating! |
